Neal McCoy has been a mainstay of mainstream country since the early 1990s. Hits like "No Doubt About It" and "Wink" turned him into a crossover star, and he has stayed busy ever since, headlining shows across Texas and the Southwest. He is also known for one of the most generous careers in country music, throwing massive annual holiday bashes for fans and lending his name to charity concerts across the region. For a Lamar County audience, he is a familiar face; he has played this part of Northeast Texas many times.

The concert is the Red River Valley Veterans Memorial's biggest fundraiser of the year. Proceeds support the memorial and its mission of honoring the veterans of the Red River Valley. The night typically includes burgers, drinks, dancing, a live and silent auction, and a full evening of music. Emmalyn Carmichael sings the National Anthem to open, regional favorites Bulletproof PTX warm up the crowd, and McCoy takes the stage around 9:30 PM.

Drake's Party Barn

Drake's Party Barn sits on US-271 north of Paris in Powderly, a few minutes past the Lamar County line toward the Red River. It is a working event barn and church gathering spot with a long history of hosting country shows, rodeo-style fundraisers, and family events. The setting is pure Northeast Texas: an open-air barn, gravel parking, and the kind of crowd that knows how to two-step.

From 3870 County Road 45080 the drive runs about 35 minutes, almost all of it on open country highway. It is an easy Saturday evening trip, and for anyone new to the area it is a great introduction to the community that shows up when there is something worth supporting.

Why it matters for the area

Events like this are how rural Texas communities stay connected. A national country act playing a party barn outside Powderly because proceeds go to the local veterans memorial says a lot about the region. It is the same character you find in Arthur City, where neighbors look out for each other and a Saturday night out usually means something good, local, and worth remembering.
