The Paris Downtown Association's Christmas Parade of Lights is the 14th annual edition of one of Lamar County's most anticipated holiday traditions. The parade kicks off at 6:00 PM on Saturday, December 5, and winds through downtown Paris — starting near the Lamar County Courthouse and looping through Lamar Avenue, Clarksville Street, and North Main Street. Every float is covered in lights, and the effect of dozens of illuminated entries rolling through a darkened downtown is genuinely striking.

What to expect

The parade features community entries from local businesses, churches, schools, civic organizations, and families — each one competing to create the most elaborately lit float. The entries range from flatbed trailers draped in thousands of LED lights to horse-drawn wagons, marching groups, and fire trucks decked out for the season. It's a community production in the truest sense: the participants are the community, and the audience is the same crowd that shops at the downtown stores and eats at the local restaurants year-round.

Arriving early is worth it. The parade route through downtown Paris draws large crowds, and the best viewing spots along Lamar Avenue and the courthouse square fill up well before the 6:00 PM start. Families typically bring folding chairs and blankets, and the sidewalks become a临时 seating area for the evening. The parade usually runs 45 minutes to an hour, depending on the number of entries.

Part of a larger holiday season

The Parade of Lights sits alongside the Christmas in Fair Park craft show (December 4–5 at the Lamar County Fairgrounds) as the twin anchors of Paris's holiday season. Together, they give the community a full weekend of holiday activity — the craft show on Saturday morning and afternoon, the parade Saturday evening. For families in Lamar County, it's the weekend that officially starts the Christmas season.

For buyers considering acreage or homes in the area, the holiday season in Paris is part of the lifestyle pitch. The drive from 3870 County Road 45080 to downtown Paris is about 20 minutes — close enough to make the parade a regular tradition, far enough to come home to 1.5 acres of quiet when it's over.
